Compatibility and Installation
VPN Plus Server 1.0.0 can only be installed on a Synology Router running SRM 1.1.2 or onward.
Before configuring VPN Plus Server, disable VPN Server on your Synology Router first. VPN Server will stop being maintained upon the official release of VPN Plus Server.
The Synology SSL VPN, WebVPN, and SSTP VPN services may require purchased licenses for use upon conclusion of the Beta testing period.
What's New
Synology SSL VPN
Establishes an SSL tunnel via Synology SSL VPN Client (for Windows and Ubuntu) or VPN Plus mobile app (for iOS) for secure network access.
Supports Application Layer QoS for Synology SSL VPN connections.
WebVPN
Provides clientless VPN access to web resources.
Allows setting default portals for specific users.
Provides an address bar to access websites not listed in default portals.
Provides connection history and allows visited websites to be starred as favorites.
Standard VPN protocols
Supports SSTP VPN through the native VPN client on Windows.
Other supported VPN protocols: OpenVPN, L2TP over IPSec, and PPTP.
Management
Allows configuring objects in the address pool for VPN services.
Allows defining permissions (for local users or LDAP users/groups) by VPN service.
Allows speed limits by user and by VPN service.
Blocks specific destination IP addresses from certain users.
Provides an overview page for the administrator to monitor all VPN traffic in real time.
Provides connection history in the past 7 days.
Displays current VPN connections for the administrator to monitor and stop undesirable connections.
Allows showing, exporting or clearing logs of the administrator's managements or users’ connection activities.
Limitations & Known Issues
Synology SSL VPN is not compatible with Internet Explorer 9 or below.
When you reach a website via WebVPN, WebVPN may not allow you to access resources in a different domain/subdomain from the current website. You can add those domains/subdomains as default portals for resolution.
When you enter a URL with a directory path (e.g. example.com/aabbcc/) in the address bar, WebVPN will only direct you to the domain address without the directory path (e.g. example.com/).
When SHA2-256 is enabled for the L2TP service for the first time, you may need to restart the Synology Router to ensure successful connection with client devices.
